Francis: Herald of the Great King
Introducing a new comic book on St. Francis’ early life in response to the special Jubilee Year on the occasion of the Eighth Centenary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi promulgated by Pope Leo XIV.
---
St. Francis of Assisi wanted to be a heroic knight, riding his horse into battle to save the day. Born into a wealthy merchant family, Francis had everything he ever needed to achieve his dream.
Yet, just as he was about to ride off to seize his victory on the battlefield, God turned his life upside down.
Instead of fighting for an earthly king, Francis was enlisted by a Heavenly King.
His quest for a chivalrous life turned into a sacrificial mission as a poor herald, proclaiming the Gospel to the world and making way for the Great King.
Be inspired by a man filled with extraordinary joy in the face of every opposition, freely choosing to give-up everything for the sake of the Kingdom.

This is a great comic on the life of St. Francis! With so many fake quotes/prayers attributed to the Saint and inaccurate movie depictions out there, it is so refreshing to see a piece of new media that seeks to depict the real Saint with actual quotes and prayers of his. It was so great that Voyage sought out actual Franciscans to help advise the creation of this comic to ensure its accuracy! This will be a great gift for children to help inspire them to detach from material things and care for the less fortunate!
The conversion of St. Francis of Assisi has been told many times with the same basic details. This comic goes more in depth and tells the story in a way that even the most familiar fan of St. Francis would learn new things. There are lessons in discernment, prayer, courage, and above all, reminding us that when we give our lives to God, we don't come out at a loss. We gain far more than what we had before!
Have you ever heard the expression "give someone the shirt off his back". That is Saint Francis. You may know some, or many parts of his life, but you can always discover more. What better way to illustrate it all in this new Voyage Comics edition. I cannot wait to learn more, and neither should you. Get a copy or two, and discover with your family and friends the life of a Saint that had everything, but wanted the evermore.
I have been a follower of comics from the late 1960s when my mother bought me comics when I was ill ( living in Northern Ireland, we called them American comics). This comic explains St Francis' charism and life so well and in a very moving way. Phrases such as ' being of the poor' explain so much of the late Pope Francis' teaching and why St. Francis meant so much to him. I'm looking forward to the next installment and hopefully, we will meet one of my favourite saints '
: St Anthony of Padua.
