Francis: Herald of the Great King
Introducing a new comic book on St. Francis’ early life in response to the special Jubilee Year on the occasion of the Eighth Centenary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi promulgated by Pope Leo XIV.
---
St. Francis of Assisi wanted to be a heroic knight, riding his horse into battle to save the day. Born into a wealthy merchant family, Francis had everything he ever needed to achieve his dream.
Yet, just as he was about to ride off to seize his victory on the battlefield, God turned his life upside down.
Instead of fighting for an earthly king, Francis was enlisted by a Heavenly King.
His quest for a chivalrous life turned into a sacrificial mission as a poor herald, proclaiming the Gospel to the world and making way for the Great King.
Be inspired by a man filled with extraordinary joy in the face of every opposition, freely choosing to give-up everything for the sake of the Kingdom.

Francis: Herald of the Great King is wonderful. The illustrations are fantastic and the telling of St. Francis' young life and conversion is well done. I'm looking forward to more of St. Francis' story.
The story of Francis life brought a wanting to my heart. He has helped me to open my heart more and more to the Lord our true King. I am looking forward to more stories about Francis and his life with the brothers.
Just finished reading Francis: Herald of the Great King e-book. A great story of a not-so-saintly man becoming foolish, in the eyes of the world, for God. We are all chasing something, but St Francis's life shows us, maybe we should be aiming a little higher. Great explanations and content at the end of the comic. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be passing my hard-copy comic on to a young reader.
I was expecting more on the ministry of St Francis. I bought this for my grandson who attends St Francis of Assisi grade school. Thought he could share it in the classroom. After we read it, I told him that maybe there would be additional Publications covering his later life. Unbeknownst to me, his teachers teach about St Francis in the classroom. My grandson was not surprised by the content. He said that his teachers always say that as a young man St Francis was a "Real Jerk!" This book leans in that direction. I don't see the benefit of stopping the book without showing the results of ministry.
This is a great comic on the life of St. Francis! With so many fake quotes/prayers attributed to the Saint and inaccurate movie depictions out there, it is so refreshing to see a piece of new media that seeks to depict the real Saint with actual quotes and prayers of his. It was so great that Voyage sought out actual Franciscans to help advise the creation of this comic to ensure its accuracy! This will be a great gift for children to help inspire them to detach from material things and care for the less fortunate!
