Set in Chicago during the 1920s, Martin struggles to find his place in the world. He suffered a debilitating leg injury as a fighter pilot in World War I and is rejected by society. Without the support of family or the ability to work, Martin is a homeless veteran roaming the streets of Chicago, living off of scraps of food he finds.
That is, until he rises from the ashes.
Through a series of unlikely events, Martin discovers that his knowledge of the streets can actually help the country he fought to defend. Working in the shadows as if he was a “phantom,” he encounters criminals and crime scenes, giving the police the hints and clues they need to clean-up the streets of Chicago.
Just read the first issue. The art style and color reminds of Dynamite entertainment comics. Dynamite is known for making comics based on old school pulp fiction characters like the Shadow, the Green Hornet, or the Phantom. I like the first issue and will continue to check it out. I love the old style Chicago gangster style setting. The comic story get right into the action. It is a fun read. The phantom Phoenix seems like a cross mix between the daredevil and spider man with Batman's detective impulses.

I thought Phantom #1 was really well-written and I appreciated that the story revolved around the son's desire to honor and care for his mom. I am not Catholic and I did not feel overwhelmed with doctrinal things only Catholic folks would understand. The beauty of his entire familial relationship was Christ-centered and relatable.
